The Orchard Community celebrates Pentecost Sunday by hearing from Lead Pastor Scott Hodge and the gospel reading from Acts 2:1-21, in which Jesus’ apostles receive the Holy Spirit and speak in other languages of the wonderful things God had done. Through this reading, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit moves in unexpected ways, breaks down barriers, and energizes our own spirit.

June 2, 2019 – Easter – Ascension Sunday – Scott Hodge

Easter 1C Keynote.007.jpeg

The Orchard Community nears the conclusion of the Easter season by hearing from Lead Pastor Scott Hodge about the liminal space experienced by the disciples as they witnessed the ascension of Jesus. We are reminded that, as uncomfortable as liminal spaces are, in those spaces the ordinary gives way to the extraordinary and possibility is given to those things that can only exist between endings and beginnings. In those spaces there is room for transformation, healing, renewal, and new life.

Easter 1C Keynote.003.jpeg

This week at The Orchard, we read John 21:1-19 and see Jesus asking Simon Peter three times if he loves him. Lead Pastor Scott Hodge reminds us that, in this moment, Jesus is drawing Simon Peter back into a community and giving him purpose, and we are also reminded how Jesus calls each of us into that same life-giving, purpose-driven community.

April 28, 2019 – Easter – Week 2 – Scott Hodge

Easter 1C Keynote.002.jpeg

As the Orchard tribe continues the season of Easter, we look at the words of John 20:19-31 about the disciple Thomas and his doubts about Jesus’ resurrection. Lead Pastor Scott Hodge reminds us that the point of this story isn’t that we shouldn’t doubt, but that we should yearn for an encounter with Jesus and a personal experience of His resurrection. In this story, we see that faith needs the freedom of doubt in order to spring forth and take hold in our lives.

April 14, 2019 – Lent – Palm Sunday – Scott Hodge

lent wk 006.jpegLent is the forty day season that acts as a liminal space for us to open ourselves up to transformation, and leads us into the celebration of new life and Easter. As Lent draws to a close and Holy Week begins, we look at the words of Luke 19:28-40 that tell about Jesus’ procession into Jerusalem. Lead Pastor Scott Hodge encourages us to recognize the small, daily deaths we experience, and to surrender to our reality and trust that God is present and God is good.

Lent is the forty day season that acts as a liminal space for us to open ourselves up to transformation, and leads us into the celebration of new life and Easter. Anna Hammond reminds us that we can trust that God is with us as we seek to restore the lost things in our lives. We are also reminded that, as “Easter people,” we know death and loss are not the end, love wins, and soon we will celebrate our renewal and the grace of God.

lent wk 003.jpegLent is the forty day season that acts as a liminal space for us to open ourselves up to transformation, and leads us into the celebration of new life and Easter. This week, we look at the Gospel reading from Luke 13:1-9 and find Jesus’ invitations to ask better questions and turn to God. And through these invitations we can see that easy answers, assumptions, and cheap cliques keep us from solidarity, empathy, and compassion.
