Trusting God is not a one-time decision, it is a daily posture. As we continue the series “Trusting God With _____,” Lead Pastor Scott Hodge guides us through the issue of trusting God with our doubts. We often think there is a duality between faith and doubt or that doubt is the enemy of faith, but Scott shows us that embracing both and living in the tension between the two can help strengthen our faith and our relationship with God.

April 8 & 9, 2017 – Lent – Palm Sunday – Scott Hodge

Lent TITLE CARDS.006.jpeg

This weekend we begin Holy Week with Palm Sunday, the day we remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Lead Pastor Scott Hodge draws our attention to the contrast between Jesus’ procession and the procession of Pontius Pilate and the Roman Empire that took place at the same time. We see the contrast between Pilate’s kingdom of force, intimidation, and fear and Jesus’ kingdom of love, compassion, and forgiveness; and Scott asks the question “which procession will we join?”

Pastor Scott Hodge invites us to see the humanity amidst the divinity in this week’s gospel reading from John chapter 11, the story of Jesus raising Larazus from the dead. When it comes to resurrection, we find that the story of Lazarus is not just about what did happen but what does happen and we find that God’s presence is made known to us when God knows we need it the most.

This past weekend marked the beginning of Lent – the forty day season that leads up to our Easter celebration. To begin our Lenten journey, Pastor Scott Hodge explored the importance of being rooted in our identity as God’s Beloved, and how that can empower us to overcome the three universal temptations Jesus faced in the wilderness: the temptation to say, “I am what I DO”, “I am what I HAVE” and “I am what OTHERS THINK.”
