Down is up. Losing is saving. Death is life. On this Second Sunday of Lent, Scott Hodge took us into the paradoxical words of Jesus found in Mark 8:31-38: “Take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake…you will save it.”

February 18, 2018 – Waking Up – Lent – Week 1 – Scott Hodge

On this first Sunday of Lent, our Lead Pastor, Scott Hodge took us into the story of Jesus being baptized and then led by the Spirit into the wilderness where he was tempted for 40 days (Mark 1:9-15). Reminding us that Lent is a season where we are invited to spend time in the wilderness, Scott challenged our community to do so remembering our true identity as God’s beloved, while also trusting that there are “angels” in the desert who offer us help, rest and strength.

This week, the Epiphany series continues with Lead Pastor, Scott Hodge, takes us into Mark 1:14-20, the story of Jesus calling his disciples to follow Him. In this passage, we see the paradox between a call to embrace God’s promise to grow us into the people we’ve been created to be and a call to let go of anything that keeps us from fully contributing to the Kingdom of God.
