On this past First Sunday of Advent, Pastor Scott Hodge took us into the startling and disturbing words of Jesus found in Matthew 24:36-44 where we are called on to be present and “keep watch.” Every Advent season, we are pointed to this “apocalyptic text” that challenges us to give up our usual sources of illumination and our familiar ways of seeing, so that we may recognize and receive the God who comes to us in the most unusual and unexpected ways.

It’s Labor Day Weekend – a time of year that always seems to bring change. Whether it’s a change in our rhythms as our kids go back to school, job changes or even the actual change in seasons as we begin to start our journey away from summer and into fall – these changes are inevitable, and sometimes quite stressful. This weekend, we have a “catch your breath” Sunday as we take some extended time to pray and seek God’s peace as we make our way into a new season.

Jesus has a way of flipping hearts and minds upside down – especially when it comes to so many of the assumptions and ideas we have about life, relationships, religion, politics, and even God. This Sunday, Lead Pastor Scott Hodge takes us into Matthew chapters 6 and 7, where Jesus challenges us to stop worrying about our lives and start entrusting them into the hands of a God who knows what we need before we even ask.

Jesus has a way of flipping hearts and minds upside down – especially when it comes to so many of the assumptions and ideas we have about life, relationships, religion, politics, and even God. This Sunday, Anna Hammond encourages us to see Jesus’ upside down teaching about the Kingdom of God and how it is brought about by small deeds by ordinary people in ordinary places, in relationships, and in everyday life.
