This week, we begin the new series “Becoming”, which explores some of the ways God is continuing to shape us – both as individuals and as a community – into becoming a unique and beautiful presence in our city. Lead Pastor Scott Hodge kicks off the series by talking about grace and how being a grace-filled community means we are accepting, authentic, and believe in second chances.

Lent title cards.010.jpeg

As we continue into the fifth week of Lent, we continue to shake out of the familiar, look at things in a new light, and wake up to new observations about the life we are called to lead. Through this week’s reading in John 12:20-33, Tammy Helfrich reminds us that there is no life without death, and that the power of Easter is not just that Jesus is alive, but that Jesus was dead. And we are reminded that this walk we are called to take, of taking up our cross and following Jesus into death, will result in our eternal life.

Down is up. Losing is saving. Death is life. On this Second Sunday of Lent, Scott Hodge took us into the paradoxical words of Jesus found in Mark 8:31-38: “Take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake…you will save it.”

On this first Sunday of Lent, our Lead Pastor, Scott Hodge took us into the story of Jesus being baptized and then led by the Spirit into the wilderness where he was tempted for 40 days (Mark 1:9-15). Reminding us that Lent is a season where we are invited to spend time in the wilderness, Scott challenged our community to do so remembering our true identity as God’s beloved, while also trusting that there are “angels” in the desert who offer us help, rest and strength.
